Don't Try This at Home : How to Win a Sumo Match, Catch a Great White Shark, Start an Independent Nation and Other Extraordinary Feats (For Ordinary People) by Hunter S. Fulghum
Imagine calling Fort Knox and asking the best way to break in and steal the gold. Don't have the guts for it? Don't worry, because Hunter Fulghum has done it for you. He has contacted everyone from the U.S. Dept. of Energy to his local alien experts to find out how you would do everything from Swim the English Channel to Borrow the Mona Lisa to Start an Independant Nation.
Aside from being funny and quite interesting, the book is very well written; I highly recommend it.
Rating: 10/10. Good light reading.
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare [DVD]
No doubt everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare's ill-fated lovers. This 1968 version of the classic tale is the best performance of Shakespeare I have ever seen. All of the parts are magnificently cast, with the choice of teenagers to play Romeo and Juliet adding to the reality of the performance. Some lines were cut from the play, but nothing essential to the story, and the result is a movie that moves along quickly. I originally watched this movie nine years ago for my English class, and having just watched it for the second time I can say that it's as good as I remembered. There is some brief nudity, but nothing I would expect anybody to find offensive. Overall, I can't find a single thing to complain about in this piece; I recommend it wholeheartedly.
Rating: 10/10. Sometimes the old movies are best.
Casting Crowns by Casting Crowns
If you listen to Christian radio, you've heard Casting Crowns singing Who Am I. They haven't yet reached the status of, say, Mercy Me, but if you enjoy Christian rock, this is definitely a band you need in your collection. The cd also includes the popular song If We Are The Body. A DVD of a Casting Crowns concert is also available.
I am a flower quickly fading Here today and gone tomorrow A wave tossed in the ocean A vapor in the wind Still You hear me when I'm calling Lord, You catch me when I'm falling And You've told me who I am I am Yours, I am Yours
Rating: 10/10. If this is your type of music, it's a must have.
Almost There by Mercy Me - Gospel / Alternative Christian
If you listen to Christian Radio, then you've heard I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me. If you haven't heard it and you enjoy Christian music, then you must get this CD. If you don't, listen to I Can Only Imagine; it might change your mind. Amazon.com offers the first few seconds in either Windows Media or RealPlayer, but you really must hear the whole thing; that one song is worth the cost of the CD. Highly recommended.
